Unfollow notification/ A notification system that alerts users when someone unfollows them.
I am writing to request a new feature that I believe would significantly enhance user experience on Primfeed. In recent times, there has been an increase in the practice of users following an account only to unfollow it shortly after they receive a follow-back. This practice can be quite frustrating for many users who seek genuine engagement and community growth.
Considerations:
The feature could be optional, allowing users to enable or disable unfollower notifications based on their preference.
To respect privacy, the notifications could be limited to recent unfollows (e.g., within the last 30 days).
Benefits:
Improved User Experience: Users will have more control and awareness over their follower lists, helping them manage their community better.
Transparency: It fosters a more transparent environment, allowing users to understand their follower dynamics better.
User Retention: By addressing a common frustration, this feature could contribute to higher user satisfaction and retention.

Hi Char, thanks for taking the time to write your feature request.
As we try to make the board as readable as possible, we require posts to have a minimum number of votes within a few months to remain active. If you really think Primfeed should implement your feature, we suggest creating it again and asking the community to vote for it.

I have privacy concerns here. The intention stated above does seem in the right place, but there are some who would like to silently unfollow someone

Opt-In Feature: Make the unfollower notification feature optional. Users can choose to enable or disable this feature based on their preferences. This way, those who value transparency can have the notifications, while those who prefer privacy can opt out.
Limited Notification Scope: Restrict the notifications to a certain timeframe (e.g., only show unfollows that happened within the last 30 days). This would provide relevant information without overwhelming users with historical data.
Anonymous Aggregated Data: Instead of notifying users about specific accounts that unfollowed them, provide aggregated data. For example, users could receive a summary of how many followers they gained or lost over a period without revealing individual accounts.
User Feedback and Control: Continuously seek user feedback to fine-tune the feature. Implement user controls that allow them to manage how and when they receive notifications.
These measures aim to respect user privacy while still addressing the issues caused by the follow/unfollow practice. I believe that with these adjustments, we can create a solution that balances both transparency and privacy concerns.
