Make sharing a post NOT create a new post (separate quote reposts from normal reposts)

Right now you basically only have an option to quote a post so even if you don't type anything, it creates an entirely new post with new set of likes. Would it be possible to separate reposts like on X/twitter with ones that are quotes (new posts) and just simple reposts meant to share the original post further so liking it would simply like the original post instead of the repost? Personally I'd rather like the original post instead of the repost and to do that I have to go to the original user's profile and find the post manually :c
