A thought on the Policy on AI use in primfeed.
To whom it may concern,
I'm just writing to give my feed back on the the current rules for AI use in primfeed. At current, sellers are allowed to use AI to advertise their products but users are not allowed to for their pics.
In all honesty, I think this is backwards. Sellers should not be allowed to use AI because it misrepresents the product they are selling. This is VERY critical because the texture, shape, color and build of the object are an intrinsic part of what sells a product. I had a friend that bought something based on the advertisement of the product inworld and the actual item did not look like the image. I've even had the same thing happen to me already where critical details like the panty straps were actually missing on the mesh but shown in image. It was more of a strapless crotch cover than it was a panty.
These very small details are super important. As a person that deals with 3d modeling, so much lazy work can be hidden with Ai and can disappoint when the actual model is seen. Polygon smoothness, polygon count, visible geometry edges, bad texture mapping etc. All are things that AI hides. Even worse it can add a look that the real model may not have like details to a texture map that are not actually there. same goes for lighting, specular highlights and the like.
Now, although I don't use Ai in my posts, I'm not against the use of AI at all. Like I think advertising for a party or an event is fine so long as it's not misrepresenting the actual look of the venue.
As for personal accounts I think creators should have the freedom to use mild Ai for backgrounds, pose corrections, lighting corrections etc. So long as it just doesn't look like a straight ai render. As a thought, maybe have a feature on submissions that use AI where they can post the original shot. Sort of like a little meta data image so if people want to see the original they can click a button and see it. This way the art shines first but still shows SL as it's base.
OR
Have a completely different gallery for AI.
OR
An AI filter and let the people decide if they want to see it or not.
I think there are options here. People want to create in what ever their capacity is. Some like traditional and some like new technology. I'm sure there are more considerations to be had, but letting sellers use Ai definitely is not it, cause money is involved. People are paying for what is advertised and not getting what was advertised. That's bad in EVERY book.
Thank you for your time in reading this and I hope it inspires more thought on the matter for Primfeed rules.
