OpenGraph metadata ( https://ogp.me/ ) allows little preview windows to appear for services like Discord, Twitter, and anything else that supports the OGP. This is a widely used and vital component of any social media site.
For instance if I want to share a link to my post on discord, it'll do its little thing there, and give folks a taste of the content.

I can put links in but they have to be clicked on to see what's there. It'd be nice to just have it displayed when for instance you're using a gyazo picture.
